Exercice 1 : Opérateur de rotation de spin et unitarité

Question 1
On considère l'espace H=C2H = \mathbb{C}^2 (spin 1/21/2) avec la base {∣ ⁣↑⟩,∣ ⁣↓⟩}\{|\!\uparrow\rangle, |\!\downarrow\rangle\}. Les matrices de Pauli sont : σx=(0110),σy=(0−ii0),σz=(100−1).\begin{aligned} \sigma_x = \begin{pmatrix} 0 & 1 \\ 1 & 0 \end{pmatrix}, \quad \sigma_y = \begin{pmatrix} 0 & -i \\ i & 0 \end{pmatrix}, \quad \sigma_z = \begin{pmatrix} 1 & 0 \\ 0 & -1 \end{pmatrix}. \end{aligned}

On définit l'opérateur de rotation autour de l'axe zz d'angle θ\theta :

U(θ)=e−iθσz/2.U(\theta) = e^{-i\theta\sigma_z/2}.

Question 2
En utilisant σz2=1\sigma_z^2 = \mathbf{1}, montrer que :

U(θ)=cos⁡θ2 1−isin⁡θ2 σz=(e−iθ/200eiθ/2).\begin{aligned} U(\theta) = \cos\tfrac{\theta}{2}\,\mathbf{1} - i\sin\tfrac{\theta}{2}\,\sigma_z = \begin{pmatrix} e^{-i\theta/2} & 0 \\ 0 & e^{i\theta/2} \end{pmatrix}. \end{aligned}

Solution
On développe l'exponentielle en série entière et on sépare les puissances paires et impaires, en utilisant σz2k=1\sigma_z^{2k} = \mathbf{1} et σz2k+1=σz\sigma_z^{2k+1} = \sigma_z :

e−iθσz/2=∑k=0∞(−iθ/2)2k(2k)! 1+∑k=0∞(−iθ/2)2k+1(2k+1)! σz=cos⁡θ2 1−isin⁡θ2 σz.e^{-i\theta\sigma_z/2} = \sum_{k=0}^\infty \frac{(-i\theta/2)^{2k}}{(2k)!}\,\mathbf{1} + \sum_{k=0}^\infty \frac{(-i\theta/2)^{2k+1}}{(2k+1)!}\,\sigma_z = \cos\tfrac{\theta}{2}\,\mathbf{1} - i\sin\tfrac{\theta}{2}\,\sigma_z.

En substituant σz=diag(1,−1)\sigma_z = \mathrm{diag}(1,-1), on obtient la matrice diagonale annoncée.

Question 3
Vérifier que U(θ)U(\theta) est unitaire : U†(θ) U(θ)=1U^\dagger(\theta)\,U(\theta) = \mathbf{1}.

Solution
U†(θ)=diag(eiθ/2,e−iθ/2)U^\dagger(\theta) = \mathrm{diag}(e^{i\theta/2}, e^{-i\theta/2}), donc :

U†(θ) U(θ)=(eiθ/200e−iθ/2)(e−iθ/200eiθ/2)=1.\begin{aligned} U^\dagger(\theta)\,U(\theta) = \begin{pmatrix} e^{i\theta/2} & 0 \\ 0 & e^{-i\theta/2} \end{pmatrix} \begin{pmatrix} e^{-i\theta/2} & 0 \\ 0 & e^{i\theta/2} \end{pmatrix} = \mathbf{1}. \end{aligned}

Question 4
Calculer l'opérateur U(θ) σx U†(θ)U(\theta)\,\sigma_x\,U^\dagger(\theta) et interpréter le résultat comme une rotation dans le plan (x,y)(x,y).

Solution
On calcule :

U(θ) σx U†(θ)=(e−iθ/200eiθ/2)(0110)(eiθ/200e−iθ/2)=(0e−iθeiθ0).\begin{aligned} U(\theta)\,\sigma_x\,U^\dagger(\theta) = \begin{pmatrix} e^{-i\theta/2} & 0 \\ 0 & e^{i\theta/2} \end{pmatrix} \begin{pmatrix} 0 & 1 \\ 1 & 0 \end{pmatrix} \begin{pmatrix} e^{i\theta/2} & 0 \\ 0 & e^{-i\theta/2} \end{pmatrix} = \begin{pmatrix} 0 & e^{-i\theta} \\ e^{i\theta} & 0 \end{pmatrix}. \end{aligned}

En décomposant :

(0e−iθeiθ0)=cos⁡θ σx+sin⁡θ σy.\begin{aligned} \begin{pmatrix} 0 & e^{-i\theta} \\ e^{i\theta} & 0 \end{pmatrix} = \cos\theta\,\sigma_x + \sin\theta\,\sigma_y. \end{aligned}

C'est bien la rotation de σx\sigma_x vers σy\sigma_y d'angle θ\theta dans le plan (x,y)(x,y) de l'espace des observables, conformément à la formule adjointe UAU†U A U^\dagger pour les rotations unitaires.
